Budapest running shoes store fail
Romania fails at sports. I knew that already, things are picking up now, but in terms of specialized running stores and sports gear we’re lagging behind. And it makes sense, so far the only store that actually makes money selling sports goods is Decathlon and we got this one fairly recent. We have stores that sell Nike, Adidas and the ocasional Asics shoes, but it’s mostly models for men, older...

Mark's First Run
Went with Mark on his first run! I followed the first week of 5K101, 2 mins slow jog and 3 mins brisk walk…was really awesome, and the pooch seemed to enjoy it. Also, for him it was mostly brisk walk, he just ran a bit from time to time (advantage of having 4 legs :p). I won’t push at all, but it’s nice for him to drain some energy and for my knee to start recovering actively.

Running for Weight Loss - Common Mistakes →
This is a very nice RunnersWorld article about the top 10 mistakes people do when they use running as a weight loss tool and how to fix them. I’m guilty of some of them, check out the full article! Running slowly to stay in the ‘fat-burning zone’ Hopping on the scales every day Taking diet supplements that promise to increase metabolism or suppress appetite Not eating after...

Strength training exercises for running
I found a really awesome blog! Brian Martin writes it, it’s about running technique, it also has shoe reviews (yey!) and he wrote a very nice ebook I am planning to buy. You can check it here: http://www.runningtechniquetips.com. I am very interested in the mechanics of running and when a book promises to  make technique and the complex area of biomechanics understandable for runners of...

shortmom replied to your post: Do you know how to tie your shoe laces? Also, Body Glide your entire feet! I get big shoes, but after so many miles something will hurt in the end, no matter what you do. :-) I am pretty sure marathons are a world of hurt, I’ll wait another year till I try one :D But my big toe nails hurt as well on long runs when my foot was moving in the shoe, so I thought...

Do you know how to tie your shoe laces?
Don’t laugh! I am 28 and I figured out before my half marathon I had no idea how to tie my running shoe laces. And I keep reading about people getting “angry nails”, maybe they have the same problem I had :) The first very important thing I found out about running shoe fit was when I got my trail running shoes. I was told by a very nice guy to GET THEM BIG! Or my nails would...

My Half Marathon Cause
As you know, I am running my first half marathon in 9 days. Since it’s a huge milestone for me, I decided to support a cause instead of registering normally. Which means I have to come up with a sum of money to donate for that specific charity, I wear their tshirt while running and I help them promote the cause amongst my friends and family. And whoever else might listen :) I do a lot of...

It's been a year!
Since i started running :) The Petrom Cros 2010 was my first running competition. I registered 2 weeks after starting running outside. I walked some of it and in the end i managed to finish it in 21 miuntes. And I was so proud! 1 year later, this happened :) 15:19 min official chip time, 45 out of 225 in my age group. Overall, 110 out of 487 women. Can’t describe how happy I was when I...

Why I run with music
I wanted to write about this for a long time now, ever since i read devonrunning’s post in which she praises running without music. She even adds a picture from her running route. And then it all made sense to me :) I run in the middle of the city. I admit, in a very good neighbourhood, and most alternatives would be way worse. Here is a google street view of my favorite street: ...

Swimming: my new cross training of choice
Untill I work some more at my tattoo that is :) But till then, I found a 25m long pool somewhere close by and since Dan is going for the whole triathlon sprint on 3rd of september, we started training. I love swimming, but I never took proper classes and I do it badly. I favor one side and I swim crooked! So I started looking for online tutorials. This is what I liked most: 10 videos on...

New PR!
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/105356852 I stopped the timer after i dropped dead on a bench. I cut the last meter in SportTracks and there you have it! 5K in 29:44.  I really wish Garmin Connect had this feature, I hope they will add it to the new version. I want to trim the last 2-3 meters of a workout if needed. Anyway, 5K race on 3rd of September, speed work starts tomorrow. I think...

Back from vacation!
If possible, June an July were even more hectic for me then May. After the honeymoon i went to visit friends in Sweden for 5 days, came back and left for Montenegro for a week for rafting and sea side. While i was back i was trying to catch up with work and failing at it, and somewhere in between i even had my birthday. To be honest, i love vacations as much as the next person, but this way of...

GS-Sport GH-625M GPS Watch: In-depth review
GPS gadgets are becoming more and more popular if you’re into sports. It is mandatory to track your performance if you expect to improve it and when Google measuring tool and a stopwatch don’t cut it anymore, a GPS watch is the way to go. The only problem is that they aren’t exactly cheap, and the low end models from big brands are very stripped of features. GS-Sport GH-625M...

And updates. I’m in Sweden now, having an awesome time with internet buddies. We’re running every day, but also eating way more then planned so 4n4 challenge will most likely be fail for me. Since i am running without my phone and i always run on streets with traffic, i decided i need some kind of id with me. I ordered a RoadID and i wish it was here already… Last night i was...

A Guinea Pig's Confession
I don’t know if anybody read my presentation post (note to self: add pages to the theme already), but i always ate bad and stood far away from sports. It was a lack in my education mostly, i plan to teach my kids it’s just as important to read a book as it is to be able to climb some stairs without passing out. So i turned out to be a slightly unhealthy sedentary geek. When i started loosing...

Running in the rain
Oooook, what do you do when you find out your biggest inspiration is a fraud? It’s still hard for me to accept some people can be like that, it hits me in the face every time and i wonder if i am an idiot for putting my trust in people. Anyway, I’m still sticking to the running schedule and weather has been pretty bad, so I sometimes have to run in the rain or use the treadmill (i...

Running Tips for Absolute Beginners
I have some friends that barely started running or think about starting. So I am typing this over and over again lately, I’ll just direct them to this post from now on :) Only two small notes, i followed this beginner program and i would put more emphasis on stretching at the end of the run, it is VERY important. Otherwise, this guide is perfect! runrunningrunner: Running can be a blast....

Barefoot and Minimalist running - Conclusions
I had something completely different prepared for today, but i see lots of people pondering on switching to barefoot or minimalist running and maybe i can save someone’s foot :) I thought about writing a really long post about this with my experience, but i listened to a podcast that sums it up so much better. I know people around here follow Pete from http://www.runblogger.com/ but i...

When i run...
* Most of the time i am very focused on running, music is loud in my ears and i don’t always notice things around me * If i know you and you don’t manage to catch my attention, i’m sorry. It’s not personal, i’m just too wrapped up in what i’m doing * If i do see you, please settle for a smile and a wave. We can meet later, but while i’m running i am struggling not to stop, don’t give me a...

Adidas Ladies Supernova Skort Review
You know how buying new training gear makes you just want to fly out the door and try it on? It’s one of the little things that motivate me when i loose my drive to run. May be also because i’m a girl and i can’t help myself ;) Bottom line is, i ran in a skirt! First time i saw running skirts (or skorts) was on the Lululemon site and they were sold out. Not the mention the...

Dilemma
I have to run 4 miles. I have something to do from 8 till 12 (pm). It’s 32 degrees outside (celsius, and about 90 F). I can run from 6:30 till 7:30 pm outside and it will still be hot like hell, or pick the living room treadmill, as boring as it may sound, but with the air conditioning on. * Later edit: I ran outside, felt like running in a sauna…horrible weather :( ...

4n4 challenge
Tumblr has to be the best weight loss tool i ever saw. The community is amazing and there are lots of inspiring people that will keep you on track just because they show you each day they can get faster, stronger, leaner. And you’re almost embarrassed if you fall off the wagon, tracking your progress like this keeps you accountable better then a fitness buddy. And from time to time, this...

Pace Converters
I completed Week 2, Day 8 of my Runkeeper FitnessClass yesterday. 6.48km in 43 minutes, that’s an average pace of 6:38 min/km, which now i know is 10:40 min/mile pace.  I am a kilometer kind of girl and all the paces for the program are given in miles so I have been trying converters all morning. Best pace converter i found is: http://www.bane.info/ Unlike the Runner’s World one,...

Day 8 - Loro Parque, more firsts and the trip back
Day 8 was the day i got to feel like a kid again. Loro Parque has some wonderful sea lion, dolphin and orca shows and i left with a plush dolphin in my arms after eating mountains of sugar coated nuts (i did mention i ate horribly bad in this vacation..yes i did). In the evening i got to try something i wanted for a really long time. I ran 1.2km barefoot on the beach, at sunset, and after that i...

Day 7 - Boat trip South-West of Tenerife
Day 6? Nothing worth mentioning, lots of shopping, eating and slack. Day 7 was nothing short of awesome. Started with an early run of 4km, shower and breakfast. http://runkeeper.com/user/ruxandra/activity/39693547 Legs got a bit tired from my 3 runs in 4 days (not used to that anymore) so i booked a 30 minutes leg massage at the hotel. Around noon we left for a 4.5h boat trip around the...
